The Gladstone Mine Near Cottonwood Pass (Photos - June 8, 2007)
|
The Gladstone Mine mailbox stands conspicuously
on the other side of the Denny Creek Trailhead parking lot.
The mine has long since been abandoned, and assumedly the mailbox is for the few small rentals down in the valley,
but I felt compelled to visit the old mine. |
|
Just a few tenths of a mile west on
Cottonwood Pass Road (up the steep grade),
one can see the mine to the left. |
|
I crossed Cottonwood Creek and hiked straight up the hill and reached the mine! |
|
Nearby were a few old structures.
This was definitely a pretty Colorado-y type of photo, in my opinion. ;) |
|
On top of the large mound is an old
cabin with stunning views of the mountains, including Mt. Yale,]
to the south. |
|
There are many old remnants from the mining operation up there,
including a lot of broken glass. |
 |
I am telling you ... What a beautiful view it was!
I included a shot with myself and Mt. Yale behind (top), a zoom-in of the Mt. Yale summit
(middle) and the view looking more towards the west up the canyon towards Cottonwood Pass. |
|
A few more old structures. The top photo is some kind
of shoot that was part of the mining operation, and I photographed two abandoned cabins (middle and bottom).
