March 30, 2006 - A Drive Through Cottonwood Canyon (Summit Still Closed)
 |
This afternoon, I took a break from work and did a drive inside
Cottonwood Canyon. The road to the summit is closed
at the Denny Creek Trailhead parking lot. Ah,
but it was a nice and sunny day and I enjoyed the drive. |

A few cabins with scenery at the Rainbow Lake Resort. |
 |
That snow-capped mountain is officially known
as Unnamed Peak - 13,435 feet. It is a sister peak of Mt. Yale.
Visit 14ers.com to see more photos of it. |

The sign speaks for itself. We still have
at least another two months before Cottonwood Pass Road will open all the way! |
 |
There is good news though. The snow has melted considerably since my last visit in February. :) |
 |
There's lots of snowmobiling happening up there in
the canyon at in the vicinities around the summit. |

Here's one shot of the Denny Creek Trailhead parking lot with the side of Mt. Yale in the background. |

One photo of an imposing mountain view as I drove down. Winters are long in Colorado, but man oh man, those few months of summertime are like paradise here in the Cottonwood Pass region! :) |
