SNOWFALL IN JULY! Some Snowfall Along Cottonwood Pass Road (July 5, 2006)
It had been overcast all afternoon with some rain showers.
At about 7 p.m., I took a drive up Cottonwood Pass Road and originally planned to only snap this
photo of Jones Mountain for my "Colorado Seasons" web project. Yet when I noticed some new snow
on the face of Jones Mountain, I knew I needed to continue up to the summit. If there had been
any snowfall on this day in July, I was going to photograph it! ;) |
There I was heading up Cottonwood Pass Road. |
And there it is ... fresh snowfall! Along this upper part of
Cottonwood Pass Road there was a dusting of snow within the forest. |
As I was driving uphill, I took quite a few photos like this one. |
And in case you're coming in late, yes folks, this is fresh snow in July! :) |
I continued up Cottonwood Pass Road under extreme fog conditions. |
Approaching Cottonwood Pass at timberline. |
Near the very top of Cottonwood Pass Road, it was quite an experience.
Looking south over the edge of the road, I could see absolutely nothing but fog.
In the bottom photo, I was climbing the final 0.1 to 0.2 miles to the top. |
Now this photo is quite deceiving. I set the timer with my camera
and show how it made it look much brighter than it actually was. Notice all the clouds behind me. |
Looking out towards the
Gunnison County (west) side, there was at
least some visibility when I shot the left photo. However, very soon, thick clouds
rolled in from the eastern side of the past and made visibility extremely poor. |
One photo of me at the Cottonwood Pass sign. I love it up there! :) |
Now this is a good and realistic photo of what it looked like
facing the east side of the pass. |
And this is what the eastern view looked like this evening.
Heh heh! It was a little dark and dreary! ;) |
