Colorado Snowfall - A Drive To The Cottonwood Pass Gate (March 29, 2007)
|
In the middle of the day, I made the
drive west on Chaffee County Road 306 to the Cottonwood Pass gate. It
was snowing and visibility was poor, but I was in the mood for a drive
and had my music blasting in my car. Here are a couple of shots at the
beginning just east of the Rainbow Lake Resort entrance. |
|
The snow intensified and I did my best to capture some creative photos of the snowfall. |
|
Two more photos of the road as I headed west. |
|
At the Denny Creek Trailhead area (where the closing gate exists), a great way to show how hard the snow was coming down was to use the Denny Creek Trailhead sign as an object to focus on.
Here are some of my other snow-related pages of the Cottonwood Pass region:

The Cottonwood Pass gate. Nobody was around while I was up there,
with just one truck in the parking lot. |
 |
I captured a shot of the very tall and aged aspens that stand near Denny Creek, and the partly iced Denny Creek looked beautiful with the blanket of snow. |
|
Interestingly, no snowmobilers were around.
The snow really was coming down fairly hard, which is not ideal for good
snowmobiling conditions. Still, I would think the local snowmobilers must
be happy over this being the third consecutive day of snowfall! :) |
